Forget what you think a wedding ceremony is supposed to look like for a minute.
How do you actually want yours to feel?
Do you want people laughing? Do you want them crying? Probably a bit of both?
Do you want to tell the story of how you met — including the bits one of you would rather leave out?
Was there a disastrous first date? A drunken declaration of love? A proposal that went completely wrong before somehow going completely right?
Tell me. That's the good stuff.
Because your ceremony doesn't have to sound like everybody else's.
You don't have to stand in a particular place, say things you don't believe or follow traditions simply because somebody decided that's how weddings are done.
Want something traditional? Brilliant.
Want something completely different? Even better.
Want your dog involved? I'm definitely listening.
Want to get married on top of a mountain? Fine. I'll bring my walking boots.
And if tequila, breakdancing, Star Wars or that ridiculous story your friends still bring up after ten years is genuinely part of your story, then why shouldn't it find its way into the ceremony?
I'm a celebrant, but I'm also a storyteller and public speaker.
That matters.
I'll spend time getting to know you — not just names, dates and where you met, but who you actually are together.
What makes you laugh?
What drives you mad about each other?
What's got you through the difficult times?
When did you realise, Yep… this is my person?
Then I'll take all of that and create a ceremony that sounds like you, not something downloaded from the internet with your names dropped into the gaps.
It can be funny. Romantic. Emotional. Traditional. Completely unconventional.
Usually, the best ceremonies are a mixture of all of them.
One of the great things about choosing a celebrant-led ceremony is freedom.
A beach. A woodland. Your back garden. A beautiful venue. Somewhere that means something to the two of you.
Your vows can be serious, funny, deeply personal or somewhere in between.
You can include music, readings, family, friends, children, pets, stories and traditions — or leave out anything that doesn't mean anything to you.
There is one important practical point: a celebrant-led wedding ceremony isn't itself the legal marriage in England and Wales, so the legal registration is normally completed separately through a registrar.
After that?
We can concentrate on creating the ceremony you actually want.
Maybe.
And I actually think that's important.
You need someone you feel comfortable talking to. Someone you trust with your story. Someone who understands when to make people laugh, when to disappear into the background and when a moment deserves to be left completely alone.
So let's have a conversation.
Tell me about the two of you, tell me what you're planning — and definitely tell me the story you're already wondering whether you should tell me.
That's probably the one I want to hear.
